Taking your parents for Umrah is one of the most rewarding journeys a family can make. With some careful planning, even parents with limited mobility can perform Umrah comfortably.
Planning the trip
- ✓Choose hotels as close to the Haram as your budget allows — this matters more than anything else.
- ✓Pick daytime flights where possible and avoid tight connections.
- ✓Request wheelchair assistance at the airport when booking — tell us at the quote stage.
- ✓Allow rest days between Umrah and Ziyarat, and travel in the cooler months if you can.
- ✓Get travel insurance that covers existing medical conditions.
Wheelchairs and Tawaf
Wheelchairs and electric scooters are available to hire for Tawaf and Sa’i, and there are dedicated routes for them on the upper levels of Masjid al-Haram. You can also bring a lightweight folding wheelchair from Pakistan; let the airline know in advance.
Health and comfort
- ✓Carry all regular medicines in hand luggage, with prescriptions and a doctor’s note.
- ✓Keep a small bag with water, dates, medicines and a phone with emergency numbers.
- ✓Perform Tawaf late at night or after Fajr when it is cooler and quieter.
- ✓Watch for signs of heat exhaustion and dehydration, especially in summer.
