Ziyarat means visiting places connected to the history of Islam. In Makkah, most pilgrims join a half-day Ziyarat tour by coach or car after completing Umrah. Ziyarat is not part of Umrah itself, but it brings the seerah of the Prophet ﷺ and the story of Hajj to life.
The main Ziyarat places in Makkah
- 1Jabal al-Nour (Cave Hira)The mountain where the first revelation of the Quran came to the Prophet ﷺ in the Cave of Hira. The climb is steep and takes around 1–2 hours; many pilgrims view it from the base.
- 2Jabal Thawr (Cave Thawr)The mountain where the Prophet ﷺ and Abu Bakr (RA) sheltered during the Hijrah to Madinah. Also a demanding climb.
- 3MinaThe valley of tents where Hajj pilgrims stay, and the site of the Jamarat. Outside Hajj season you can see it from the road.
- 4MuzdalifahThe open plain between Mina and Arafat where Hajj pilgrims spend the night under the sky.
- 5Arafat and Jabal al-RahmahThe plain where the most important day of Hajj takes place, and the Mount of Mercy where the Prophet ﷺ delivered his Farewell Sermon.
- 6Masjid Aisha (Taneem)The nearest Miqat to the Haram. Pilgrims already in Makkah who wish to enter Ihram for another Umrah usually go here.
- 7Jannat al-MuallaThe historic cemetery of Makkah, where Sayyidah Khadijah (RA), the first wife of the Prophet ﷺ, is buried.
